The Great Horned Owl
The great horned owl is a large, powerful owl that is a permanent resident of Texas and is common throughout the state is the largest in the state, with a length of 23 inches, a wingspan of 45 inches, and a weight of 3–4 pounds. Appearance has a brown chest with black horizontal bars, wings, and a tail that can be brown to gray with black bars, and distinct discs around yellow eyes. It also has large ear tufts called “horns” and a white chin and throat. Habitat is found in wooded areas, orchards, and agricultural areas.
